The Narrative
Trekking Near Astra Resort and Caffe Kasauli

If you are staying near Astra Resort (located in the Garkhal/Mashobra area of Kasauli), you are perfectly positioned at an elevation of approximately 6,000 ft to access some of the most scenic trails in the Shivalik range. Here is a guide to the best treks and walks near you that offer those stunning views: 1. The Gilbert Nature Trail (The "Birdwatcher’s Paradise") This is arguably the most beautiful walk in Kasauli. It is a narrow, unpaved path that hugs the edge of the cliffs. Distance from Astra: ~6-7 km (a 15-20 minute drive to the starting point near Kasauli Club). The View: On a clear day, you can see the lush green valleys of Himachal on one side and the distant plains of Chandigarh on the other. Highlight: The trail ends at a rocky cliff known for "Blue Moon" photography and incredible birdwatching. 2. Manki Point (Monkey Point) Trek As the highest point in Kasauli, this trek takes you slightly above the 6,000 ft mark to the Air Force Station. The Climb: It’s a short but steep 1 km uphill walk from the Air Force base. The View: A 360-degree panoramic view. You can see the Sutlej River snaking through the plains and the snow-capped peaks of Choor Chandni in the distance. Note: Because it is an Air Force area, cameras and phones are strictly prohibited and must be deposited at the gate. 3. The Pine Forest Ridge Walk (Near Astra Resort) Since Astra is located slightly away from the main Kasauli Mall Road, you don’t even need to drive to find peace. The Trail: There are several "off-the-beaten-path" trails starting near the Mashobra/Garkhal area that wind through dense pine and oak forests. The View: These trails offer a "forest glow" during the golden hour (around 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM), with sunlight filtering through the needles and views of the rolling Shivalik hills without the tourist crowds. 4. Sunset Point to Lover’s Lane A classic leisure trek that connects the upper mall area to a quiet, winding forest path. The View: Famous for its deep orange and violet evening skies. Pro Tip: Start at Sunset Point and continue onto Lover’s Lane for a quieter, more secluded experience compared to the main viewpoint
